A controversial move by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to drop salaries of the state’s prison guards has prompted the guard’s workers union to seek a recall of the movie star turned politician.
“We’re going to move it as quickly as possible,” union spokesman Lance Corcoran said, and added that the referendum would most likely wind up on a special-election ballot next year. Corcoran called the Schwarzenegger administration a “complete failure”.
According to Reuters, the prison guard union has fought with the governor for quite some time. “The 30,000-plus-member union has long been at odds with Schwarzenegger, but his order in July to cut the pay of prison guards to the minimum wage sparked their latest confrontation,” they said in a recent news release.
