Pork-ridden handout bill expected to pass House

Despite objections from largely out-numbered Republican members, the $825 billion dollar government handout bill is expected to pass the House of Representatives this afternoon, signaling that our elected representatives view nothing being outside the scope and responsibility of federal politicians.

This would be President Obama’s first major victory since taking the reigns of the White House – a victory that may cost the American taxpayer nearly $900 billion by the time the bill gets through the Senate.

Only a dozen Republican representatives are expected to support the bill in the House.

“What we’re concerned about, some of the spending in this bill has nothing to do with creating jobs or preserving jobs,” House Minority Leader John Boehner said.

The currently-proposed “stimulus package” includes hundreds of millions of dollars for seemingly unrelated projects, like $50 million for the National Endowment of the Arts and repairs to the Smithsonian museum totaling $150 million.  Other spending measures in the bill earmark over $330 million to programs that educate teens about STDs and sending $600 million over to NASA to study climate change.  Additionally, the bill would use $200 million to cosmetically improve the National Mall in Washington D.C. and budget $670 million to maintain and rebuild restrooms and other buildings in our national parks.

Larger spending measures include $54 billion on “renewable energy projects” and a whopping $20 billion to modernize America’s health care system.

“The Democrat bill won’t stimulate anything but more government and more debt. The slow and wasteful spending in the House Democrat bill is a disservice to millions of Americans who want to see this Congress take immediate action to get this economy moving again,” said Congressman Mike Pence in a statement.

In his weekly ‘Texas Straight Talk’ column, Texas Representative Ron Paul says the bill is filled with worthless promises that will escalate the government-created economic mess.

“$79 billion bails out states that haphazardly expanded their budgets during the bubble years, but refuse to retrench and cut back, as their taxpayers have had to, during recession years,” he wrote.

“Of course the bill is rife with central planning projects.  $4 billion for job training, much of which will be used to direct workers into “green jobs”.  $200 million to “encourage” electric cars, $2 billion to support US manufacturers of advanced batteries and battery systems, which is yet another function of government I can’t find in the Constitution.”

  2. Vote with your feet on the bailout…. Pull your money out of the banking system. If even a small percentage of us do this, they will notice quickly in DC.
