State Department endures another day of cyber attacks

SOUTHERN ARIZONA – The United States State Department confirmed today that its web site came under another cyber attack for the fourth day, which led to concern among department officials about the frequency of the attacks.

“We are taking measures to deal with this and any potential new attacks,” said Ian Kelly, a spokesman for the State Department.

The State Department’s web site was only one in a group of high profile government web sites that were targets of these onslaughts.  The White House and Pentagon sites were among those that have endured attacks recently.

Security officials and lawmakers in South Korea believe that North Korea, or its sympathizers, are primarily responsible.

The attacks consists primarily of distributed denial of service attacks, which is a strategy that bombards targeted web sites with a flood of requests for information in a very short period of time, often forcing the computer’s web services to shut down or slow to a crawl.
