McCain wants another Democrat to jump ship, join GOP

Shortly after Alabama Democrat Parker Griffith announced his intentions to switch parties over to the Republicans, Arizona senator John McCain phoned Democratic representative Chris Carney of Pennsylvania, who is apparently frustrated with his own party, about the possibilities of joining the GOP.

Carney’s office admitted that they received a call from McCain, but did not comment further on whether the two-term representative will accept McCain’s pleas to bring him on board as a Republican. “I appreciate the Republican Party’s outreach, but I have no plans to change parties,” Carney said in a statement Wednesday night.

“I am flattered by the overtures of Sen. McCain and other Republican Party officials and consider their outreach a sure sign that I have worked in a truly bipartisan manner. I always put my district above political party and have maintained an independent voice. I have enjoyed widespread Republican support throughout my district and will continue to work closely with Democrats, Republicans and independents alike.”

Carney’s staffers have assured high-ranking Democrat politicians, like Nancy Pelosi, DCCC Chair Chris Van Hollen, and others, that the Chris Carney fully intends on remaining a Democrat.
