I agree that we all need more specific policy proposals from Fred, and I expect these will be forthcoming. I am not at all concerned that we don't have more than we do at this time. Fred just announced last week and we don't start voting for another four months. There will be plenty of time to review and discuss his positions and decide where we stand with Fred.

But there is another important point here. Fred himself has said that he doesn't have all of the answers and further that no other single person does either. Fred's character and fundamental principles are what people are responding to. We conservatives want an honest, decent, conservative man who loves America, respects our Constitution, and will stay out of the way of individuals, localities and States as much as possible.

Bill Clinton had a ten point plan for everything except that which he handed off to his wife and for which she had a twenty point plan. But he wouldn't defend the country and he was constantly apologizing for America and finding fault with Americans. Further he spent eight years appointing judges who will spend the rest of their careers telling us all how to live without our having any say on the matter.

Public policy isn't everything and in a President it is far from the most important thing. It is the rest of the picture that is the basis of Fred's appeal. Thus his supporters are not blind, they are just looking elsewhere as compared to you.

This article is so refreshing.
I have been completely baffled by the love-is-blind infatuation with Fred Thompson.

Perhaps it's because I have never seen him in a movie or in Law & Order.

I fear that many are really supporting Arthur Branch from L&O and the character he played when he was the president and terrorists were bringing suitcase bombs into the country.

I suspect he's running because his wife wants him to.

I went to www.blogsforthompson.com and saw him in a video answering a question from an e-mail.

It was amazing - after rambling on and on, he actually succeeded in saying nothing.

I watched another video on the site where he answered a question from a young girl who was asking about social security and taxes.

Basically, he repeated her question and said that it was a problem and one that needed to be solved.

Amazingly, the young girl said he had answered her question.

This is what Thompson does really well: He repeats the question in varying ways, then states that yes, indeed, it is a problem, a big problem (whatever the problem is), and one that needs to be addressed.

He never answers the question.

He is really great at putting out catchy, endearing Southern-type one-liners.

But never anything specific.

He either doesn't remember, can't recall (sound familiar?) or just resorts to talking about how federalism is the answer.

FT fans lap it up.

I'm very concerned about this.

It seems we truly have our share of people on the right who make up all their decisions based on how they feel.

To me, Fred Thompson is the Republican version of Barack Obama. Hasn't doesn't much, doesn't know much, but he sure does give people a good feeling inside.
