Four Republicans: will they win world opinion or war?
By: Lee Ellis | Published on 09/18/06

Four Republicans defied President Bush in trying to save Americans from terrorist attacks. These four joined the Democrats in voting to be nicer to captured terrorists in obtaining information rather than in clarifying the exact meaning of the Geneva conventions.

Clarity would allow more positive and aggressive interrogation, the type that just saved us from another attack! And it would protect our professional interrogators from prosecution due to faulty interpretations of the current laws.

Who are these four Republicans? They are Sens. John Warner, Virginia; John McCain, Arizona; Lindsay Graham, South Carolina; Susan Collins, Maine.

It is not that these Senators are trying to help terrorists; rather, it is that they simply do NOT understand the terrorist mindset or the rules by which terrorists operate. They act as if these enemies are the same types that were fighting us in WWII and in other battles. They are NOT! These terrorists do not represent any one nation, nor are they uniformed, military men who value honor and patriotism. These people are just plain civilian murderers who will use any ruse to wound, maim, or kill innocent men, women and children of any nation. They hate all who are Christians or Jews or who do not follow the strict rules of Islam as these terrorists view that religion! They have hijacked this once peaceful religion. They seek to control women as property, to be used only as birthing machines for producing babies to be raised in madrasahs as future murderers. Every year, Hamas, Hezbollah and al Qaeda will see their armies grow as kids leave Islamic schools ready to be suicide bombers or killers!

Why have these four Republicans done this? Two main reasons:

1. The four, along with their fellow Democrats, still seem to think that it is more important to obtain a better opinion of the US by world leaders than to save American lives.

Well, there are many of us who think that saving America is far more important than being patted on the head by sneering Dictators. The Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is laughing at our attempt to force sanctions on his nation in order to stop him from developing a nuclear bomb. He knows that Saddam was able to ignore sanctions through bribery and corruption with the Oil for Food program. Iran, now, has plenty of oil and money to bribe other nations to not go along with sanctions. Already two large nations have backed down from their promise to vote with America in the U.N.

2. They still think that if we are nice to our prisoners, then the enemy will be nice to our captured soldiers. Former Secretary of State Colin Powell, in a letter sent to McCain, said Congress must not pass the president's proposal to redefine U.S. compliance with the Geneva Conventions. "The world is beginning to doubt the moral basis of our fight against terrorism," wrote Powell. "To redefine Common Article 3 (of the Geneva Convention) would add to those doubts. Furthermore, it would put our own troops at risk."

At risk? How naive to think that terrorists would follow any of the Geneva accords. While we might deprive our prisoners of war of sleep or silence in order to obtain vital information, the terrorists would deprive their captured prisoners of fingers, hands, or tongues as they hacked away with machetes! Saddam proved this with his torture and rape rooms! Either Powell is personally angry with President Bush or jealous of Dr. Rice. Surely he must know better.

When are American politicians going to learn that we are in a desperate war with thugs and murderers, not with civilized military operations? When are they going to learn that any type of appeasement is viewed by terrorists as a weakness, not as a strength or a desire for peace? Diplomacy is unknown to terrorists. They only know that winning requires all their enemies to be either dead or completely demoralized.

Are we going to allow greedy and naive politicians to let us or our grand-kids be killed in the future, or are we going to follow President Bush who knows what must be done to save America and, indeed, the world? He is a President who knew that if a seed of freedom was planted in the Middle East, it would grow and slowly spread. Sure, the surrounding Dictators would try to stomp it out so they could keep control. Freedom, like weeds, will always defeat the stompers. Democracies will not start out to be like ours today. Yes, it took America over 140 years before we even recognized women's right to vote. The nineteenth amendment was not ratified until August 18, 1920! So how can any reasonable person expect the Middle East to reach the same point in just a matter of a year or two?

If WW II had been brought into our living rooms the way war is today via TV, we would have lost that war! Few Americans would have had the guts to see the hundreds of American kids killed daily in both Europe and on the South Pacific islands if TV cameras had brought their deaths to us every night as they are doing now. You tremble today when you see a few flag-draped coffins coming home. What would you have done then when there were hundreds of coffins day after day without stop? It was fortunate that the media censored itself so you knew little. Today, the media can reveal more to you and our enemies than al Qaeda can learn from its spies. WWII was fought on the battlefield; today’s wars are fought in the media, in the UN and in our Congress!

Americans, this disabled war veteran wants to know. Do you really have the resolve to win, or have we fought in the past in vain? If you really want to win, will you please send your letters not to me, but to these four Republicans? They really need to know!
