Tony Snow to return to White House next week

White House Press Secretary Tony Snow revealed to CNN that he plans to return to work next week Monday, just one month after surgery to remove several small tumors from his abdominal cavity.

Snow added that he is expected to begin a series of chemotherapy treatments starting next week Friday and will relax his workload, if necessary, during that time.

The President's spokesman, 51, has battled cancer for a number of years, starting in 2005 with the removal of his colon in response to colon cancer, where he underwent several months of chemotherapy.

Colon cancer is the third most common type of cancer in the United States and ranks second in cancers that cause death. Every year, an estimated 50,000 men and women die from colon cancer, although it is more prevalent in older men.

In late March, President Bush expressed confidence in Tony Snow's ability to fight his health complications and return to work. “He is not going to let this whip him,” Bush said, adding that Snow is upbeat about his future. "And so my message to Tony is, 'Stay strong; a lot of people love you and care for you and will pray for you.'"
