SmallGovTimes.comSuspicious truck suspends operations at Miami port By: Jim Kouri | Published on 01/07/07 The FBI, Department of Homeland Security and the Joint Terrorism Task Force have closed down the Port of Miami after capturing two illegal aliens from the Middle East hidden in a vehicle at 8:30 AM Sunday. According to the Fox News Channel, two Middle Easterners were hiding in the back of a truck leaving one of the busiest ports in the US. When agents questioned the vehicle's driver, he claimed the back of his truck was empty. A search by the federal agents revealed he lied when they discovered two men hiding in the suspicious vehicle. The Homeland Security Department told Fox News Channel that the investigation is continuing and all activities at the Miami seaport are suspended. The identities of the suspects involved have not been revealed as yet, nor is it known if federal agents expect to find more illegal aliens being smuggled into the US. Members of the Homeland Security Department are searching shipping containers at the port, but it's not known if they are searching for persons or contraband at this point. While the Homeland Security Department identified the three men involved as illegal aliens, the FBI reports the men, all of Middle Eastern descent, are in the country legally and do not appear on any terrorist watch list. A bomb squad was called in and conducted a search of the area from where the truck carrying the suspects departed. Police did not find anything unusual in the truck's cargo container, and no federal charges are expected against the three men.
