SmallGovTimes.comHuckabee shines in Fox News debate By: Benjamin Amis | Published on 05/26/07 In the recent Fox Republican Presidential Debate, Governor Mike Huckabee (Arkansas) shined brilliantly on the stage in front of the nation. The only true call on the carpet that the ordained minister received during the debate was how he could be considered conservative while raising taxes in his state while governor. His response was clear and concise – he did what the people wanted him to do. Huckabee explained that the issue of raising taxes was brought before the people of Arkansas in a vote, and over eighty percent of voters agreed with raising taxes, and so he did as told by the people who had made him their chief executive. The southerner also didn’t attack anyone on the stage during the debate, as was not the case for others, including several ‘back-and-forth’s between top tier candidates, and who would forget Rudy Guiliani’s remarks to Congressman Ron Paul concerning his theory about how we brought 9/11 on ourselves. I must also ask the Congressman if he’s really sure he’s running in the right primary. Don’t look to see Ron Paul in the near future, he’ll be busy committing political suicide. Although I’m sure the democrats would take him in for awhile. ‘Rudy McRomney’, as (soon to be former) Rep. Paul refers to the GOP top tier, had their fair share of going back and forth as well. While all well and good, this helped my man Governor Mike Huckabee to come out looking even better than he already was. I can honestly see this man leading our party back to our conservative roots and sending a revitalization throughout the right-wing. It’s about time someone decided to step up and do so, we’ve been waiting on Gingrich to do it for too long. Don’t misunderstand, I have great respect for the Speaker, but he’s just rode the fence about a run for the White House for too long, we need someone who’s going to be our ‘go-getter’ nominee to win the hearts of the American people. One simply can’t be a go-getter and a fence-sitter. I look forward to seeing the future of the GOP unfold in the next few years. I hope our 2008 Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota will bring forth a political leader that we need to help heal us after such a torn period in American history. Who better than a man of God like Mike Huckabee? Reagan did it in the ‘80s, and I whole-heartedly believe that Huckabee will be the guy to see this nation into the next decade.
