SmallGovTimes.comRetired General draws criticism at GOP debate By: SGT News | Published on 11/29/07 Retired Brig. Gen Keith Kerr, an openly-gay man who asked a video-taped question and also appeared in the audience during the CNN/YouTube debate Wednesday evening, apparently works for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, a fact never revealed by CNN. “I think it should have been revealed,” Arizona Senator and GOP candidate John McCain said after the debate. "I think that should have been made public if this individual was a member of another - any other campaign, then people would, obviously, have a better way of judging the quality of the question." The retired General asked if gay members of the military should be able to serve alongside their heterosexual soldiers. “American men and women in the military are professional enough to serve with gays and lesbians,” he said. “I revealed I was a gay man after I retired.” After the debate, CNN acknowledged that Kerr may work for Clinton and apologized for the mistake. “We never would have used the general's question had we known that he was connected to any presidential candidate, “ said CNN's senior vice president David Bohrman. The Clinton campaign said that Kerr is not a campaign employee and was not directed to attend the debate on behalf of the New York Senator. Questions surround other YouTube questioners as well, as several of them clearly indicate support for a Democratic candidate in the 2008 elections within their YouTube profiles.
