Texas Representative Ron Paul, along with several other Democrats, told Bush that the War in Iraq will end once enough Democrats and Republicans stop bending over backwards to every financial whim of the Bush administration over the war's continued escalation.

These words were penned in a letter to Bush this week and signed by 88 Democratic representatives, along with Ron Paul, the sole Republican on the list of endorsers.

The letter states that the signers will only support further funding on the War in Iraq for the eventual pullout of troops from the area in a safe manner before Bush's second term in office ends.

“More than 3,800 of our brave soldiers have died in Iraq. More than 28,000 have been seriously wounded. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have been killed or injured in the hostilities and more than 4 million have been displaced from their homes. Furthermore, this conflict has degenerated into a sectarian civil war and U.S. taxpayers have paid more than $500 billion, despite assurances that you and your key advisors gave our nation at the time you ordered the invasion in March, 2003 that this military intervention would cost far less and be paid from Iraqi oil revenues,” the letter says.

The letter continues to cite prominent public frustration over the War in Iraq and the belief that the American people want our troops to return home, calling continued operations “unwise and unacceptable”, citing the “staggering costs” and “soaring debt on Americans” to be suffered by generations to come.
