Sam Brownback to drop out of race
By: SGT News | Published on 10/18/07

Kansas Senator Sam Brownback will be the first major GOP candidate to drop out of the race and will announce his withdrawal tomorrow in Topeka, Kansas, according to sources close to the Senator.

Brownback's funding is running dry, and he only managed to raise $926,000 in the third quarter. Sources close to the Kansas Senator cited money as the primary reason for his departure.

Polling, although historically unreliable, puts Brownback towards the bottom of the heap, garnering around 1% of the vote among registered Republicans.

Brownback enjoyed solid support among the “right to life” constituency of the United States. “Life is worthy of respect and protection from the moment of conception,” Brownback wrote on his campaign web site. “I fear that our society has forgotten the value of human life. I believe every life has intrinsic meaning and purpose, and that the termination of life is taken too lightly in our country today.”

Popular opinion indicates that if Brownback does not immediately endorse another candidate, his supporters will probably hop onto the Mike Huckabee campaign, another social Conservative who shares similar beliefs in a variety of family matters.
