SmallGovTimes.comMcCain wins GOP nomination By: SGT News | Published on 03/04/08 Arizona Senator John McCain successfully made it one step further towards the White House by winning all 4 primaries this evening and becoming the presumptive official nominee for the Republican Party. McCain won primaries in Texas, Vermont, Rhode Island and Ohio, giving him more than the 1,191 delegates needed to win the nomination. On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton broke Obama’s 12-state winning streak by taking the gold in Rhode Island, Ohio and Texas. Obama won the state of Vermont. McCain, a strong support of our nation’s foreign policy and eager to maintain our extremely costly war in Iraq, is largely known as a “Maverick” within the Republican Party ranks, often differing with the party’s core conservative supporters. In response to McCain’s victories tonight, ex-Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee finally withdrew from the contest, telling a small crowd of supporters to now focus their attention on uniting the party. McCain will drop by the White House on Wednesday to pick up the endorsement of President George W. Bush. Original URL: http://www.smallgovtimes.com/story/08mar04.mccain.nomination/index.html |
