The storms killed 6 in the small town of Parkersburg, Iowa. The mayor of the town credited the early warning system that enabled its residents to seek shelter before the storms hit. “Without that, we would have a tremendous amount of injuries and loss of life,” Bob Haylock, the town’s mayor, said.
