Richardson invents new ways to spend money overseas
By: SGT News | Submitted on: 10/26/07SOUTHERN ARIZONA (SGT NEWS) - Presidential candidate and New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson announced yesterday an initiative to spend money overseas to “fight poverty”, develop “sustainable energy” and “reform and invigorate” the United Nations.
"For decades, we believed that the only apocalyptic threat to human civilization was the possibility of nuclear war," said Richardson. "Now we know better. We know that poverty and overpopulation affect us all."
Richardson called on the United States to take a leading role in further meddling in the affairs of overseas nations and spending taxpayer money on issues of all kinds, including:
* Investment in the World Bank debt relief effort
* Sustainable energy
* Food production
* Cross-border crime
He also praised the United Nations and said the organization stands as a “necessary and important framework” for international cooperation on these and many other issues. "We must reform and invigorate it," he added.
Richardson, a former UN ambassador, also took the opportunity to jab his Democratic opponents. "My colleagues in this race have my respect, but it is a simple fact that the next international deal negotiated by any of them will be their first."
