The aftermath of Ahmadinejad

By: Neal Boortz | Submitted on: 09/25/07

EDITORIAL - Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the dangerous president of Iran, was permitted to speak at Columbia University yesterday. I know a lot of people disagree, but I think that was a good thing. It was in a sense a celebration of our right to free speech, something they sure don't enjoy in Iran.

Thankfully, this madman's speech was met with tens of thousands of protestors on the streets of New York. While rightfully criticized for the hypocrisy in inviting Ahmadinejad to speak while un-inviting the founder of The Minuteman Project, (and not allowing the ROTC on campus), Columbia's President Bollinger did ask him about his denial of the Holocaust.

President Bollinger made his opening remarks saying, "Mr. President, you exhibit all the signs of a petty and cruel dictator." He then went on to criticize Ahmadinejad's denial of the Holocaust. Ahmadinejad responded that Bollinger's opening was "an insult to information and the knowledge of the audience here." Sure ... we're all buying that.

Ahmadinejad then went on to say that he wanted "more information" about the Holocaust. He also didn't approve of Israel using the Holocaust as "justification for the mistreatment of the Palestinians."

Between all of his dodgy answers, he also managed to throw in religious dogma and versus from the Quran.

Oh and let's not forget that he questioned the "official" version of September 11th and questioned whether al Qaeda was even responsible for the events.

When it came to terrorism, Ahmadinejad (shockingly) denied sponsoring terrorism and pointed the finger at the U.S. government. He says, "Within six months, over 4,000 Iranians lost their lives, assassinated by terrorist groups. All this carried out by the hand of one single terrorist group. Regretfully, that same terrorist group now, today, in your country, is operating under the support of the U.S. administration ..."

He also pointed out, "In Iran we don't have homosexuals like in your country." This comment was met ... with laughter.

Well ... let's see what he has to say in front of the United Nations when he gets his chance to speak there.
