SOUTHERN ARIZONA (SGT NEWS) - Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission Kevin Martin said today that no new regulations of the Internet are needed, instead arguing that the FCC has all the authority it needs “at this time.”

Martin spoke during a hearing in front of the Senate Commerce Committee and noted several previous actions that provide the necessary evidence that the FCC already possesses enough authority to prevent discrimination by ISP, or Internet Service Providers.

The debate over “network neutrality” provided the impetuous for today's hearing. Network neutrality describes the theory that Internet users should have the authority to travel throughout the Internet without being stopped by various network administrators.

“The only thing bigger than corporations in this country is the government,” said Patric Verrone, president of the Writers Guild of America in an interview. “So we think we have to make clear to legislators that we need somebody making sure that the pipe is neutral.”
