Fred Thompson quits; may position himself for VP bid

(SGT NEWS BITE) - Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson dropped out of the race Tuesday and, according to a top adviser, can now position himself as a vice presidential candidate.

"We're all grownups in this game and he has said he's not going to be a hanger on," Thompson adviser Rich Galen told The Examiner, explaining Thompson's decision.

Galen was told of the decision of the decision by Thompson's wife Jeri early Tuesday.
