More troops destined for Afghanistan

By: SGT News | Submitted on: 05/03/08

SOUTHERN ARIZONA (SGT NEWS) - To make up for shortfalls in the military contributions from European countries, the Pentagon is mulling over a plan to send an additional 7,000 U.S. troops into Afghanistan by next year.

The additional troops would prop the total number of American soldiers in the area up to about 40,000.

Senior administration officials call the increase of American troops the “re-Americanization” of the war, as it would boost the proportion of American troops to foreign troops up to two-thirds.

“There are simply going to be more American forces than we’ve ever had there,” said one official.
