Americans dig out of storm wreckage as others celebrate
By: SGT News | Submitted on: 05/26/08SOUTHERN ARIZONA (SGT NEWS) - As Americans celebrate the Memorial Day holiday with barbeques and family get-togethers, dozens in the Midwest are digging out of the wreckage left behind by a series of tornadoes over the weekend.
The storms killed 6 in the small town of Parkersburg, Iowa. The mayor of the town credited the early warning system that enabled its residents to seek shelter before the storms hit.
“Without that, we would have a tremendous amount of injuries and loss of life,” Bob Haylock, the town’s mayor, said. The storm leveled schools and homes throughout the town.
