Talking points: Immigration

The problem

America is a nation of immigrants; each of our ancestors traveled here in search of a better life. The Nest encourages legal immigration to this great land of ours; what we do not support, however, is illegal immigration.

Illegal immigration has been directly tied to increases in crime, especially in some border cities. Illegal immigration is increasing population and running our country's resources thin, including social security, welfare and health care. Voter fraud from illegals is also a grave concern, especially in states like Florida and California. Lastly, the government needs to be accountable to us over our tax dollars and what they are funding.

Americans will never forget about the disaster of September 11th. Many of the hijackers were both illegal and possessed valid Virginia driver's licenses. This is getting out of hand, and Americans need to rise up and take our country back. Over 10 million illegal immigrants are estimated to live in the United States.

Currently, a first time offender of illegal immigration is a misdemeanor. If the violation is repeated, it escalates to a felony. Illegal immigration is not a victimless crime.

The solution

Illegal immigration can never be completely stopped. However, particular policies, if implemented, may discourage illegals from attempting to gain entry to the United States.

  • Implement harsher penalties for illegal immigration. Take funds away from social security and welfare to help fund additional prisons, which America lacks.
  • Eliminate the rights of the illegal. Currently, illegal immigrants benefit from this country's social programs like welfare and health care, and also have the right to sue legal Americans.
  • Enforce the current laws
Again, The Nest encourages legal immigration.
