Talking points: School vouchers
The problem
Our public schools fail to educate our children. Instead, federal bureaucrats promote a curriculum of political correctness and lax standards, which ultimately results in uncontrollable schools. The Department of Education is nothing but one large social program, and our children deserve a better education. The first step in improving education for our children is two-fold:
School vouchers give parents direct involvement in education. Vouchers take money already taxed and devoted to education and redirects it to parents to spend on the school of their choice. Under a voucher program, parents are awarded the freedom to select a public or private school with those funds. Vouchers remove authority from incompetent Washington bureaucrats and promote local control of education and entrusts those best suited to make educational choices: parents.
There is little doubt that our school systems need improvement. In response, every president throws together a media spectacle to announce increased spending on the Department of Education. Yet, with each passing dollar spent, no improvements are had. In fact, most evidence suggests schools have grown worse. It may not surprise many of you to know that many private schools spend less on each child than public schools do, while providing them with a better education.
We believe in school choice. By and large, school choice only realistically exists among America's wealthier, leaving other children with the burden of relying on government funded education. School vouchers work to provide school choice to more families.
The solution is clear as day. Remove the government from our children's education and place decision-making power in the hands of our parents. These scholarships to our nation's children increase the effectiveness of education for our children and advance the true meaning of what small government, the premise this nation was originally built upon, means.
