What is small government?
Small government is not anarchism, heartless, close-minded or uncompassionate. It does not result in a lawless or uncontrolled society. It is Constitutional.
It is more than a philosophy. It is a way of life - a Constitutional way of life. A small government lets its citizens live in a peace rarely seen before in America. It believes in a person's right to life, a right to keep their hard earned money and a right to enjoy a government that protects their civil liberties and ensures their national security.
Most importantly, a small United States government is Constitutional. The government's job, as originally detailed by our founding fathers, is to protect the American people from threats, both foreign and domestic. That gives the government the right to establish a well trained military and local police forces. It provides authority to the government to create and maintain a simple and fair rule of law and to imprison those who disobey it. It places an obligation on the U.S. government to protect our civil liberties as human beings.
The Constitution does not afford the government the right to create a massive, incomprehensible welfare state, as it has. In no way does the government have the authority, under the Constitution, to force the American people to contribute to a "retirement plan", so dubbed Social Security. The government has no right to establish race-based criteria for employment, as is being done under affirmative action.
A government that values life is not one that puts criminals to death while hailing abortion as a "woman's right". No one has the right to choose to kill someone else. Ever. Period. A protective government is one with the ability to effectively control the borders and respects its own immigration laws. Taking a hard stand on illegal immigration is the first step to a safe and law abiding society.
A small government establishes a tax system where each American can file their complete tax returns on a piece of paper the size of a postcard. Not only does our extremely complex tax system cost the American people money, it demands incredibly expensive Federal government resources in Washington D.C. Not only are we paying for the privilege of living in America, we're paying - essentially - for the privilege of paying taxes.
Liberals want the government to give them things they did not earn. Conservatives are too spineless to stop it. Liberals want to increase the size of our government to frightening proportions. Conservatives are too undisciplined to prevent it. Liberals want a complex, progressive tax system used to redistribute wealth. Conservatives simply refuse to fight against it.
Formerly Conservativenest.com, this web site now transcends party lines. We could no longer, in good conscience, consider ourselves to be "conservatives" because conservatives in Congress are nothing more but lighter versions of liberals - of socialists. George W. Bush's version of Washington D.C. is a far cry from returning to the Constitutional foundations that it needs to operate under.
